If you’re considering popping the question, you will want to ensure everything is perfect.  Now that we are at the turn of Spring, with longer, brighter, and warmer days, there are plenty of ways to ensure it’s a special moment to remember.  Here, Jack Jahan from Ramsdens Jewellery will be sharing his top five tips for planning an idyllic springtime proposal.

With the UK currently ready to follow a roadmap to easing lockdown, there are great ways you can mark this momentous occasion and plan the perfect time on how you will pop the question. Here are my top tips for making your proposal a moment to remember this Spring.

Choose the perfect ring
Before you start planning on that special location when you’ll get down on one knee, you’ll want to think about choosing the perfect ring first. This can, of course, take some time to find a special one to suit your partner and to find out their correct ring size!

While engagement rings are typically based around gorgeous clear diamonds, you might want to choose something more personal to your partner. For example, choosing a gemstone that is associated with their birth month or the month in which you met can add an extra romantic touch. You could even select a gemstone that represents the springtime months, like aquamarine, emerald and pearl.

All gemstones have a meaning behind them, so you could look at selecting one that will resonate with your partner. For example, garnet is associated with passion, health, love, and other strong emotions, whilst amethyst symbolises security, spirituality, and true happiness.

Once you have decided on the perfect gemstone colour, you’ll want to consider band colour and style. Yellow gold is known for its luxurious appearance and has always been treasured for its natural radiance and beauty, while white gold is more modern and still very elegant. If your partner has a lot of silver jewellery, you might want to pick a silver band for the engagement ring to match.

Design a romantic setting
With restrictions still in place, travelling to your dream proposal destination is likely to be off the cards for a little while longer, and you may be struggling to think of places with a romantic backdrop closer to home.  However, with the weather improving now that we are into the Spring season you might like to plan a beautiful setting in your own garden.

If the garden is going to be your special place, raking away any dead leaves and cutting back over any hanging bushes and hedges will be a great starting point. Once you’ve got your garden all tidied up, you can then think about whether you’ll pop the question over a romantic al fresco dinner, or create a romantic walkway that leads right outside where you’ll be waiting.  Whichever option you choose, you will want to make sure you plan a beautiful theme.  You may like to hang banners and balloons in their favourite colour, or even make your own bunting from polaroid images of you together clipped onto some string.  The choice is yours to make it as personal and individual as you would like.

If you’re planning to celebrate with some a delicious meal, consider ordering in your partner’s favourite restaurant dishes, or recreating them at home — your partner will be sure to appreciate all of the effort you have gone to!  Don’t forget to make your table setting special with photos, candles, special flowers, and your very best cutlery and crockery.

Add ambient lighting
While the days are staying lighter for much longer it will still add a special touch to add some ambient lighting — particularly if you plan to create this magic moment under the stars at night.  Candles are always a nice touch, and you can even make your backdrop more extravagant with beautiful lanterns to cradle the light.  Similarly, you might want to put up some beautiful fairy lights over the tree branches to set the mood.

If you plan to sit outside for dinner, think about having a floral centrepiece with fairy lights weaved through it, or make use of your best candelabra. The more light there is, the more that the beautiful ring will just sparkle!

Dress to impress
Your proposal is bound to be one of the most memorable and special moments of your life, and your fiancés, too!  While we haven’t had much need to wear anything too fancy for the past year, now is the perfect time to make the most of this occasion. Whether this means dusting off your favourite suit, or going smart casual, looking your best will help you to feel your best – something that will help towards those nerves kicking in too!

Get your friends and family (virtually) involved
Although this may be the most private moment in your life, you might consider setting up your laptop or your phone on a stand with a good view of where you’ll both be standing when you get down on one knee.  You can then either begin recording just before your fiancé-to-be comes to join you unsuspectingly, or you can use a video service like Zoom or FaceTime to allow your family to virtually be there when the moment happens.  Whether it’s a moment between you or a moment with all your family friends joining you on this special day, taking those special images would be something to keep forever.

So get ahead with the planning for your springtime proposal with these top tips. From choosing a ring that will wow your partner, to planning the setting and getting your nearest and dearest involved, you are sure to create an engagement to remember!

How to Find the Best Wedding Jewelry

Wedding, Bride, Jewelry, Wedding Dress, Wedding Day

When it comes time to get married, you have a lot of things on your mind. In addition to all of the planning that goes into a wedding, you have big decisions to make on wedding jewelry. The engagement ring, for instance, is the first thing you have to think about. Saving for that purchase is a big deal, so you want to make sure you pick out the right one. You’ll also have to think about a wedding band, but that’s secondary to the engagement ring.

Finding the perfect diamond ring is all about the perfect fit. That’s not meant in a literal sense, but more in how the item fits your needs. Diamond rings are expensive, but they can vary in price depending upon size, cut, clarity, and a host of different factors. Before you can pick out your engagement ring, you have to know what your budget is. Diamond rings can run, typically, anywhere from £5,000 to £30,000. You can buy a bigger, more expensive ring, but that’s only for the high rollers. A good rule of thumb is to save three whole months’ worth of pay. Depending upon your salary, this could work.

When you figure out how much you’re willing to spend, you need to think about the kind of cut your future bride wants. You can usually find this out without giving away the fact that you’re going to propose. In passing, find out if she wants a princess cut, an emerald cut, or maybe just a round cut. The options are almost endless, so you need to really understand what she’s looking for. Diamond rings might carry a big price tag, but they aren’t all created equally. Some looks are more suitable for different women, depending upon their taste.

Another important “C” word is clarity. Many people like to judge diamond rings based upon their size or their price, but clarity is much more important in the grand scheme of things. A good engagement ring will really shine when the light hits it. Sometimes, people settle for cloudier rings that are less expensive. This might be good for your budget, but it won’t give you a great looking engagement ring. Make sure that you ask and find out the grade of the diamond clarity. Jewelers are required to give out this information, so make sure you take advantage of it.

Shopping for engagement rings is fun, so you need to approach it that way. You shouldn’t have to worry about things while you are doing it. You should figure out how much you are willing to spend, and don’t stress if it’s not a whole lot. You can find some great diamond rings for less than you would think. It’s important that you do all of the research and above all else, make the ring fit your future bride. She will love it pretty much not matter what you happen to spend on it, but you’d rather have a great ring than an average looking one.
