Elizabeth Fillmore

New York Designer, Elizabeth Fillmore Debuts Fall 2021 Bridal Collection

Elizabeth Fillmore

The heart of the ELIZABETH FILLMORE collection is her absolute focus on her sophisticated and independent designs. Rooted in a ‘Modern Romantic” aesthetic. Elizabeth’s designs are marked by her signature bias cut slip gowns, gentle sexy shapes that flow over the body like water, combined with bespoke accents that add an ethereal look and poetry to each collection.

The collection features pieces in luxurious 100% silks, satin charmeuse, chiffon & 4 ply crepe, paired with couture French lace in an airy lattice embroidery on tulle.  The turn of the century inspired vintage scallop lace design seen on the AGATHA Halter Gown, IZZIE top, and ISADORA day dress serve as standouts of the collection. All of the silhouettes feature romantic details with a modern and sleek approach to the overall design.

The Fall 2021 collection is the culmination of all design elements that inspire Elizabeth. She focused on sleek, modern designs, coupled with couture lace accents. “Now more than ever we need beauty, strength, and a reminder of our past in order to move forward. The Fall 2021 ‘Reflection’ is a passion project of my artistic vision – “I want to offer my brides the poetic drama and artistry of historical inspiration layered over my signature bias cut sensual and modern silhouettes, offering up personal inspiration and aspirations of a lofty lightness,” said Elizabeth about her Fall 2021 collection.

Elizabeth has been a staple in the chicest bridal boutiques globally for years and also offers brides an atelier experience in her New York City showroom. The film was shot at the historical “Gustav Mayer” Villa on Staten Island that dates back to 1855; the villa is the former home of the Vanilla Wafer inventor and his family. The stunning backdrop of the villa meshed perfectly with the collection to capture the ambiance and poetic mood the designer sought to achieve.

Elizabeth Fillmore

The Elizabeth Fillmore woman is independent, feminine, and sophisticated with a creative spirit. Elizabeth said, “I believe every bride I dress ultimately wants to feel like a modern-day Goddess for her wedding.”  That ethereal woman was captured in her Fall 2021 “Reflection” collection.

Elbeth Gillis

Interview with South African Bridal Designer: Elbeth Gillis

Elbeth Gillis

Bride Icon are pleased to share this exclusive interview with bridal designer from South Africa Elbeth Gillis.  Her designs are renowned for sheer luxury and a sophistication that transcends time, and a brand that oozes all the hallmarks of femininity.

Elbeth Gillis is internationally known for her bridal and evening couture. Relentless in her pursuit of distinction and refinement, Elbeth searches for only the most opulent French laces and the most sumptuous silks, satins and chiffons made by prestigious fabric houses that are known to supply royalty.

As a young girl, Elbeth was surrounded by the beauty of fabrics, inspired by the magic that took place as her aunts and mother brought beauty and grace to the garments they sewed. By the age of 12, Elbeth knew she was destined to study fashion. Now, over 20 years later, the reputation of the Elbeth Gillis brand is a testament to Elbeth’s talent. Brides looking for something different will fall in love with the enduring, Audrey Hepburn-like design aesthetic.

So let’s find out a little bit more about Elbeth Gillis:

Elbeth Gillis

Thank you for taking the time to speak to Bride Icon.  Could we start off by asking about what your new beautiful collection DESIRE represents for brides to be?
Desire is very possibly one of my most articulate collections to date, fluently and coherently weaving together 15 gowns into one seamless whole.  Breathtakingly elegant, this collection pays tribute to the strength it takes to be fully woman: to know when to stop, listen, harness, and let go. This collection sees the return of structured gowns with light boning in the bodices, weightier silks and satin to add definition and line, and bold, outspoken laces.  Silhouettes range from gliding ballgowns to figure-defining mermaids.  Necklines are strong: plunging Vs, striking bateaus, sweeping off-the-shoulder lines.  Sensuous touches of femininity are evident throughout: beading sparkles and glitters, tulle skirt overlays tempt, lace cap sleevelets entice, and back and side cut-outs seduce.
Elbeth Gillis
Elbeth Gillis

Bridal dresses are within a very competitive market around the globe, how do you see your collection as being exclusive, ie what makes an Elbeth Gillis creation special for a bride?

Brides almost always comment on how comfortable their dresses are, and by how beautiful they feel in them.

Elbeth Gillis
Elbeth Gillis
There are so many trends out there, how do you decide if you were to follow a trend or not, or do you have your own styling ideas that you prefer to take forward?

I’m driven by transcendent style and by quality. While the bridal industry isn’t as trendy as high fashion, it is influenced by it, and this means there are things that will come and go. I instinctively pull out the elements that will transcend trends, and then translate that into a gown that is ethereal and sumptuous.

Elbeth Gillis
Elbeth Gillis
What has been the most intricate dress you have made and what was the story behind it.
I really like Fleur.  This body-sculpting gown in stretch satin has bold, plunging lines. Floral motifs adorn the bodice, while deep V armholes with illusion insets invite a second look.

Who is your ultimate Bride Icon in the world, past or present, that you would love or have loved to create a wedding dress for, and what would your design look like?

There are so many!  Maybe one of the royal weddings…. Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle, that would have been an amazing experience. When designing a more bespoke dress, especially for an occasion of such magnitude, the bride would have to be involved in the design process so it is really hard to say what it would look like.  However, it would have stayed true to the Elbeth Gillis brand: pure luxury, modest sensuality, and timeless yet modern designs, ethereal and feminine.

Elbeth Gillis

Elbeth Gillis
Bride Icon celebrates every woman. What would be the one piece of advice you can give to every bride looking for their ultimate bridal dress?

Pick the dress that you want to wear, that you feel beautiful in, that you feel comfortable in.  Do not be majorly influenced by friends and family.  You will know when you have picked the perfect dress.  I would also advise to start the dress buying process early for less stress, it can take a few fittings and I would also get your shoes early on too as this will have implications for the dress fittings.  Shoes and dresses can take 1-3 months to make especially if it is hand-made!

Indigo Rocks

An Exclusive Interview With Indigo Rocks

Indigo Rocks

Bride Icon first met Indigo Rocks at the Pridelux Atelier held at The Shard in London and we were so awe-inspired by some of the bespoke and beautiful table creations that were showcased.  Indigo Rocks creates stunning bespoke table decorations for weddings and events – all hand-made wedding favour boxes, gift boxes, Christmas and wedding crackers and beautiful place cards.  The creations are designed using the finest paper and acrylics, elegant ribbons and charming embellishments – giving every table that extra sparkle and glamour.  Bride Icon spoke to the Creative Director Jo Rymill to tell us more about Indigo Rocks.

Hello Jo, thank you for speaking to Bride Icon.  Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself and how the story began for Indigo Rocks.

Hello…. I’m Jo, the Creative Director of Indigo Rocks.   I have always made all the table decorations for my family for all of our (very numerous!) parties and gatherings. Over the years, family friends had asked me to make the table decorations for their weddings and Christmas parties, and I suddenly realised how much I enjoyed doing it – from here the idea of Indigo Rocks was born.

With a background in interior design and a career as a creative director for interior design companies around the world, I have a love for pulling together a look across all the table decorations so that’s why I’ve built the ranges so it’s possible to coordinate our products on the table.

Indigo Rocks

What does Indigo Rocks specialise in?

We specialise in wedding favour and gift boxes, Christmas and wedding crackers, napkin rings and place cards/escort cards. I’m also starting to work with accessories such as guest books and albums. I’m always open to suggestions if anyone would like anything in particular made though!

How would you define the perfect table setting, what should it look and feel like, and is there a favourite of yours?

For a wedding,  the perfect table setting is one where you can see the personality of the couple who are getting married. This is what makes a table unique, memorable and fun.

My favourite table settings are when the wedding theme has been taken through all the details, from the linens and tableware to the flowers to our decorative products. Table design is a lot like interior design; when a home is beautifully designed you feel warm and comfortable, the details are all taken care of. It’s the same with the perfect table.  Everything is where you need it to be to allow your guests to enjoy themselves – there’s really no point if there’s so many flowers on the table that no one can see one another!

Indigo Rocks

There is so much diversity in weddings now, how do you come up with a customised design to suit each wedding?

We always start with an in-depth conversation with the couple. We take into account the colours they’ve chosen in general for the wedding party, including clothes and flowers, and we look at any themes that they’ve already thought about for the wedding and we work with those.

We find that what we do is very different to anything else that’s on the market so it’s a really enjoyable process to create something unique for each wedding.  If a client were to come to us with a blank canvas, that’s just as much fun, and we would work together to create something beautiful for them.  We have a gallery of products on our website to get the creative juices flowing to start with.

We also work very much with personalisation so each of the favour boxes is engraved with messages to the guests, giving them something really nice to take home as a keepsake which is a lovely gesture.

Indigo Rocks

Jo where do you find your inspiration from when creating a bespoke luxury design?

I am inspired by so many things.  I have a strong passion for pattern and design, having spent years collecting beautiful fabrics and I’m a magpie when it comes to anything sparkly!  I’ve travelled and lived all over the world and am massively inspired by other cultures.  I bring all of this to my work.  I love it when a client comes to us with thoughts about a theme for their wedding that allows me to research and come up with some really different ideas for them.

With so many intricate details in weddings now, how does Indigo Rocks cater to couples wanting something unique and different?

We find every couple that comes to us is unique, so it’s really exciting to find different materials and designs that will reflect their personalities and help us make their table decorations as unique as them.

I do love it when a couple are looking for something different to all the other weddings they’ve been to.  As all our products are designed to be completely bespoke it means we don’t have to make all the products look exactly the same, we can mix and match.  For instance; we had a wedding where the theme was multi coloured butterflies – we made the favour boxes in a series of different colours and added hand cut and coloured butterflies so each one was different to the next, this design, added to the personal messages inside, made for a very unique box that the guests could keep as a memento.

With no minimum or maximum order quantity it also means you could do something special just for the top table or the bridesmaids, while keeping the rest of the guests a little lower key if you’d like to.

Indigo Rocks

Indigo Rocks

How lovely Jo.  So which has been the most unusual design you have created and what was the theme?

The most unusual one was a couple who were obsessed with Lego.  They had met at a Lego convention and the theme for their wedding was all centred around Lego – they had spent the 18 months leading up to their wedding building their table centres from Lego. They wanted to give their guests wedding favours that they could keep and treasure.  We came up with the idea of favour boxes that were made out of acrylic and each one was engraved with a personalised message and decorated with a small Lego figure made to look like each guest.  We also made place cards to match the boxes. The journey with this couple was such fun and their wedding was so personal and unique – the guests totally loved it!

That definitely sounds like the most unique design…!  Finally, what is coming up for Indigo Rocks Jo, and where can our brides come and see you?

Indigo Rocks plans to keep developing its product ranges while having as much fun as possible with our lovely couples!   You can see our work on the website www.indigo.rocks , on Instagram.com/indigorocks/ and on Facebook @www.indigo.rocks

Bride Icon would like to say a very special thank you to Jo, the Creative Director for Indigo Rocks for taking the time to talk with us and our brides.  It certainly has been a real insight into the world of luxury and bespoke table decorations.  Do send a message at hello@indigo.rocks if you’d like a chat to Jo about your wedding or event.

House of iKons hope this puts London on the map for Children’s Fashion Show and its designers. As the company always states ‘Fashion is for anyone, any age, anywhere around the world’.

Be prepared to witness first hand these amazing #iKons.  House of iKons will be supporting the charity The Sharan Project this season, protection of women and young children in vulnerable and abusive situations. Percentage of the ticket sales will be going to this charity.

This event is sponsored by OHMNILabs, Vida for You, Elle Zahra Beauty, Avalon and ROISS Natural Mineral Water.
